Volleyball Hosts Energized Youth Night

Mound Westonka volleyball hosted an energized Youth Night on Sept. 26. Youth in attendance received a free T-shirt and had the opportunity to get signed mini-volleyballs from the team following the game.

The White Hawks dominated Blake, winning 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-6). All players contributed with time on the floor. The team’s offense put up 27 kills and 18 aces. Sophomore Chloe Kantola led with five aces, followed by sophomore Melissa Drill with four. Defensively, junior Grace Bowe had 11 digs and 10 serve receptions. Sophomore Emma Mack followed Bowe with eight receptions.

On the road Sept. 28 at Watertown-Mayer, Westonka was not able to come up with a win, losing 0-3. Westonka hustled on defense with digs led by freshman Carissa Richie with 15, junior co-captain Isabel Speakman with eight and seven each from Drill and junior co-captains Jennifer Schaible and Maddy White. Offensively, the White Hawks were able to hit 20 kills, led by Richie with seven and Schaible with five.

Overall, Westonka has a 12-7 record and is 1-2 in conference. Statistic leaders include Drill with 38.8 kill percentage and 9.2 serve receptions per set played. Schaible has 38 blocks for the season. Kantola leads in ace percentage at 22.6. Speakman leads in serve percentage with 95.8. Speakman averages 6.4 assists per set or 334 total. Richie averages 3.3 digs per set.

As the season progresses into October, the White Hawks will face more conference matches and will have a series of home games: Oct. 3 vs. Dassel-Cokato, Oct. 10 vs. Rockford, Oct. 12 vs. Big Lake and Oct. 17 vs. New London-Spicer. Please plan to join the fun atmosphere at these home games!
