Spring Play Theatre · MWHS Theater Presents ‘Emergency Prom’

By Lorrie Ham

The Mound Westonka High School Theater Department will present Emergency Prom by Steve Moulds March 13-15 in the high school theater. Performances will be 7:30 p.m. on March 13 and 14 and 2 p.m. on March 15.

“We are very excited to be working on our second show of the season, Emergency Prom,” said assistant director Meagan Anderson. “This is only the third time that this production has taken the stage and the first time in Minnesota!”

As the story goes, a few days after the biggest night of the year, the students of Glen Burnie High face the fact that prom was a huge disappointment. Patrick’s date ditched him, Billy went with the wrong girl and Gus and Corey, the school’s resident couple, had an uncomfortably public breakup. Refusing to let Corey go, Gus stages a do-over of Saturday’s dance—an “emergency prom.” Soon the entire school is hoping to correct their mistakes from the first time around … but can everybody really get a second chance?

“We are showcasing many members of our senior class, who have been extremely active in the arts at the high school this year,” said Anderson.

Cast members include junior Jane Isaacs as Lizbeth, senior Tom Lloyd as Eric, senior Zach Hoh as Patrick, senior Zach Martin as Billy, senior Abe Thaler as Gus, sophomore Natey Leif as Miguel, senior Anna Malchow as Gemma, senior Lauren McDonald as Stephanie, senior Coco Wagner as Corey, freshman Piper Bruce as Callie, junior Shelby Smith as Julie, freshman Shelby Cooper as Tiffany, senior Emma LaLuzerne as Brandy, senior Hogan Kelly as Mr. Watson, senior Addia Troyer as Ms. Valenti, sophomore Tori McCann as Devon and senior Haley Jordahl as Melissa. Junior Jack Curti is the male understudy. The show is directed by Tony Brown.

Anderson cautioned that this show does contain mature themes. The target audience is high school students and older.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for high school students. Tickets will be available online beginning March 4 or in the MWHS Activities Office.
