Three Westonka skiers braved below zero temperatures at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik, Minnesota to compete in the state alpine and Nordic meets Feb. 10 and 11.
Mound Westonka High School senior Anson Kuznik competed in the alpine championships on Wednesday, placing 60th out of 88 skiers. This was Kuznik’s fourth straight trip to the state Alpine meet.
“It’s a huge accomplishment to make a single trip to state in Alpine skiing but almost unheard of to make four consecutive trips against some of the best alpine racers in the country,” said coach Jay Johnson.
The following day, MWHS senior Samuel Abegglen and junior Noah Brammer took to the trails in the state Nordic meet. This was Abegglen’s second state appearance and Brammer’s first. In the freestyle race, the two White Hawks finished one after the other, with Abegglen crossing the finish line one second ahead of Brammer for 35th and 36th place. Abegglen finished in 45th place overall after the classic race, and Brammer placed 53rd out of 159 skiers.
