Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka placed fifth at the Minnesota Class A state gymnastics team tournament, which was held Feb. 19 at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion. The team earned a total score of 143.175. Detroit Lakes took first place with a team score of 150.225, Melrose took second (147.025), Becker took third (144.325) and Austin took fourth (144.275).
The following day, Mound Westonka High School ninth-grader Teagan Schmidt competed at state as an individual, placing 14th in the all-around competition. Schmidt’s strongest event was vault, where she placed 12th out of 30 competitors.
