The Westonka Activities Department is proud to name Mound Westonka High School junior Rose Helland Athletic/Activities Student of the Week for the week of Oct. 24, 2016. As a five-year member of the bowling team, Helland is having a breakout year. Currently ranked sixth in the conference, the team co-captain is at a 76 percent fill rate, which is the ratio of strikes and spares to open frames.
The White Hawks are currently ranked in the middle of the conference, but they are getting better and better as the year goes on. With the conference championship a few weeks away, they are setting themselves up for a title run.
Comments from coach Bryan Helland: As the anchor of the team, you are supposed to bowl well, but Rose brings more than strikes to the team. She is a great joy and spark for a young team of varsity players that consists of three girls and two boys. If the team is winning or behind, they are always encouraged by Rose to keep going, knowing that the match isn’t over until the last pin falls. If it comes down to the final strike, count on Rose to deliver! And as a member of the math league, she knows there is only one strike possible but 1,022 possible spares out there to be picked up!
Teamwork. Leadership. Respect. Integrity. Excellence.
