The Westonka Activities Department is proud to name Mound Westonka High School senior Delaney Johnson Athletic/Activities Student of the Week for the week of Jan. 23, 2017.
Johnson is a three-year captain of the Westonka alpine ski team and has continued to excel as the White Hawks’ top skier for the past five seasons. On Jan. 20, she led the White Hawks to a 10th-place finish out of 21 teams with a personal finish of 27th place against the strongest teams in the state.
Comments from alpine ski coach Dennis “Jay” Johnson: In Delaney’s six years on the ski team, she has only had one race where she didn’t score points for the team. Her consistency on the hill is overshadowed by her leadership as a captain. Our team spirit is the envy of the league, and that is the direct result of Delaney’s leadership. This season she has continued to improve her ski results, finishing near the top of every race she’s been in. In addition to her race skills and leadership, Delaney just finished her first semester in PSEO at Normandale with a 4.0 GPA. Her success on and off the hill is a fantastic example of a complete athlete.
Teamwork. Leadership. Respect. Integrity. Excellence.
