The Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka girls gymnastics team won the Section 5A championship meet Feb. 18 to move on to the state team tournament. The team took first place with a score of 143.8, defeating Orono (137.85), Delano (136.675), Breck (133.9), Howard Lake (121.875), Columbia Heights (85.2) and Fridley (81). Ninth-grader Emilene Loehr and sophomore Teagan Schmidt will represent Mound Westonka High School at the state meet.
State Gymnastics Tournament Information
The 2017 Girls Gymnastics State Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavillion. Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka will take part in the Class A team competition on Friday, beginning at 11 a.m. The Class A individual competition will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Tickets to the tournament are $12 for adults and $8 for students. There will be a fan bus to the tournament on Friday, Feb. 24. The cost to ride the bus is $7 per student. Students should email Activities Director Jeff Peterson (email@example.com) by noon on Thursday if they are interested in riding the fan bus.
The fan bus will leave Watertown-Mayer High School at 9:20 Friday morning and will then pick up students at MWHS. For the return home, fans will start loading the bus at 1:50 p.m. and the bus will leave promptly at 2 p.m. Students who ride the bus to the tournament MUST ride the same bus back.
Note to fans: There are no backpacks allowed in the U of M Sports Pavilion and fans are not allowed to bring signs.
All state gymnastics events will be webcast live on Prep45.grandstadium.tv. There is a daily charge of $9.95 or a two-day rate of $16.97.
