The Mound Westonka High School varsity boys tennis team is off to a 2-0 start.
With only three days of practice under their belts, the White Hawks came out strong with a 7-0 home win over Southwest Christian on April 6. Players out on the court for the White Hawks were senior Tony Levens, first singles; junior Victor Nelson, second singles; eighth-grader Jack Linder, third singles; junior Reed Kohls, fourth singles; senior Andrew LaFortune and junior Torsten Lee, first doubles; sophomore Andrew Abegglen and eighth-grader Alex Brown, second doubles; juniors Trey Courneya and Jonathan Neve, third doubles; and junior Adam Hoogeveen and sophomore Nick Brown, exhibition doubles.
Next up, the team traveled to St. Louis Park on April 11 to face the Orioles and came away with a 4-3 victory. Wins were tallied at fourth singles (Kohls, 6-1, 6-2), first doubles (LaFortune and Lee, 6-4, 6-3), second doubles (Abegglen and A. Brown, 6-0, 6-2) and third doubles (Courneya and Neve, 6-2, 7-5). The JV White Hawks are also off to a 2-0 start.
Captains for the team this year are Levens and LaFortune. Coaches Rob Paul and Brent Reinbold are looking forward to a successful season. The White Hawks will face Holy Family at home on April 18 and travel to Delano on April 20. The varsity will travel to St. Peter on April 21 to warm up for tournament play on April 22 in St. James.
