The Mound Westonka High School boys tennis team continued its undefeated season by tacking on three more wins. The White Hawks are now ranked No. 7 in state in Class A.
First up for the White Hawks was a match against Hutchinson on April 27. The Tigers were scheduled to play at Westonka, but due to the weather the White Hawks traveled to Hutchinson to play indoors at the Hutchinson fairgrounds. MWHS came away with a 5-2 win, but the Tigers put up a good fight with three of the seven matches decided in a third set.
Winning for the White Hawks were junior Victor Nelson at second singles, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1; eighth-grader Jack Linder at third singles, 6-1, 6-0; junior Reed Kohls at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-3; junior Torsten Lee and eighth-grader Alex Brown at first doubles, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6; and sophomores Andrew Abegglen and Cole Luehmann at second doubles, 6-0, 6-3.
Next, the boys traveled to Litchfield on May 5 to face the Dragons, who were ranked fifth in the state. Once again the competition was tough, but the White Hawks were able to pull out a 4-3 win, this time with four matches decided in a third set.
Posting wins were Nelson at second singles, 6-3, 7-6; Kohls at fourth singles, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5; Lee and Alex Brown at first doubles, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4; and sophomore Nick Brown and junior Jonathan Neve at third doubles, 6-2, 6-3.
Finally, the White Hawks hosted Providence Academy on May 8 and came away with a convincing 7-0 victory. The White Hawks JV team also continues its unbeaten season with a record of 9-0.
The White Hawks move into team section play next week, followed by individual sections the week after.
