The Westonka Activities Department is excited to present the Homecoming 2017 button design contest.
As part of the 2017-2018 Westonka Public Schools centennial celebration, the Westonka Activities Department is bringing back the time-honored tradition of the Homecoming button. The Homecoming 2017 Button Contest is sponsored by Scotty B’s Restaurant in Mound. Westonka students in grades K-12 are eligible to participate in this fun opportunity to show off their creativity!
The winner of the competition will be announced Sept. 1 at the home football opener vs. Highland Park and will receive a White Hawks All-Season Sports Pass, five (5) free Homecoming buttons with your design and special recognition at Homecoming 2017. BUTTON COMPETITION RULES
Entrants in the Homecoming 2017 Button Contest should submit original artwork to be considered for a Homecoming button, based on approved artwork and language here within the official rules.
The contest is open to all Westonka Public Schools students, grades K-12.
The contest runs from July 15 to August 15, 2017. The winner will be chosen a few days after that deadline and will be notified by phone or email. The announcement will also be posted on the Westonka Activities Department website. Once agreed upon, the design will be printed on the button and given out during Homecoming Week (October 2-6, 2017).
Westonka Schools reserves the right to edit or modify the design or its position if required to fit the button. Westonka Schools also reserves the right to not use any of the submitted button designs if in the opinion of the selection committee none of the proposed designs adequately reflects Westonka Schools or is not of a sufficiently high level and quality of design.
Designs can be full color or black and white. The artwork must fit within a 2.8-inch diameter (see button design template). All submissions via the Google Form must be in JPEG, PDF, Adobe Illustrator or EPS format. Any other file format will not be accepted. Paper designs will also be accepted using the Button Design Template found below. For a paper submission, please include your name, grade and email address and drop it off during regular business hours at Suite A of the Educational Service Center, 5901 Sunnyfield Road E, Minnetrista.
Use of official Westonka Schools logos is permitted in the design. Entrants may craft their own language and slogan. Items you may want to include:

Opponent school colors: purple and white
The use of other individual branded artwork, logos or other trademarked content is prohibited. Official Westonka Schools logos can be requested from Becca Neuger, communications coordinator, at email@example.com.
How To Enter
Entries must be submitted using the electronic Google Form. By entering, contestants warrant that each submission is their own original creation and that no entry infringes on another contestant or person’s rights. Use of any photos, drawings, images or elements created by another person, except for use of the Westonka Schools designated logos and slogans are strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification. Entrants may submit multiple designs.
Designs that are considered offensive, defamatory or in violation of any person’s right to privacy or other personal rights are not welcome. Entries that are incomplete, illegible or corrupted are void and will not be accepted. Entries may not include: profanity, nudity or material deemed inappropriate or offensive, false or defamatory statements about any person or third party; abusive, discriminatory, racially inflammatory or other morally or legally objectionable depictions of material. In the opinion of the selection committee, if an entry includes any of the prohibited elements listed above, the entry will be disqualified, along with the contestant who submitted it. Entries should be appropriate to the Westonka Schools brand identity. Westonka Schools reserves the right to modify or reject any entry, in their sole and absolute discretion, that does not meet the above criteria. Once submitted, an entry cannot be modified.
By submitting an entry, the contestant acknowledges that his/her entry may be posted on the Westonka Activities Department website and edited at the school’s discretion.
The first twenty-five (25) students to submit button designs by August 15 will each be awarded $10 gift certificates to Scotty B’s Restaurant (limit one per person). One (1) grand prize winner will be selected and awarded a White Hawks All-Season Sports Pass and five (5) free buttons displaying the winning design. They will be named as the winner on the Westonka Activities Department website. No prize substitution is permitted. Prizes will be awarded provided a sufficient number of eligible entries are received. The prize is not transferable.
All entries will be judged by a selection committee. Decisions of the committee shall be final in all matters related to this contest. If there are no entries that qualify for the competition, the judges reserve the right to get another artist to design the button.
Submission of an entry grants Westonka Schools exclusive rights to reproduce and use the artwork. Entries become the property of Westonka Schools. Westonka Schools maintains the right to receive all proceeds from the sale of any merchandise using the submitted artwork, without fee or other form of compensation due at any time to the contestant. Designs will be credited to the artist on the Westonka Schools website, social media platforms and in all promotions relevant to that product.
