Boys Varsity Tennis · Westonka Boys Tennis Has Another Packed Week

The week of April 30 was a busy one for the Mound Westonka High School boys tennis team with five matches in five days. The week began with a 7-0 sweep of Buffalo at home on Monday.

On Tuesday, the team traveled to Becker and came away with a close 4-3 victory. Winning for the White Hawks were senior Reed Kohls at third singles, 6-1, 6-2; sophomore Josh Hadden at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-1; seniors Torsten Lee and Jonathan Neve at first doubles, 7-5, 6-3; and senior Adam Hoogeveen and junior Thomas Elliott at third doubles, 6-3, 6-2.

The following day, the team headed to Chanhassen to face off against the Storm. Unfortunately, the White Hawks’ winning streak came to an end in a 1-6 loss with the only win coming from ninth-grader Jack Linder at second singles (6-3, 6-3).

Match four of the week on May 3 brought the Litchfield Dragons to town. The White Hawks were hoping to get back to winning ways, but it wasn’t to be. The home team lost in a close one, 3-4. Wins were posted by senior Victor Nelson at first singles, 6-4, 6-4; Linder at second singles, 6-4, 6-4; and Lee and Neve at first doubles, 6-1, 6-4. Despite the loss, the weather was beautiful and families from both teams were able to enjoy a special Parent Night picnic.

In the final match of the week on May 4, the team hosted Delano. The boys were finally able to get back to winning ways with a solid 7-0 sweep of the Tigers.

So far this season, the team has a record of 4-1 in conference play and is 6-3 overall. The JV team continues to show strong play with wins in all five matches, bringing their record to 8-0. The White Hawks will begin team section play on May 17 with their first-round opponent and place of play yet to be determined.
