In the second game of the section playoffs, 4th seeded Mound Westonka varsity softball upset #1 seeded Orono in an 11-3 victory. The White Hawks played well as a team with an impressive 14 hits, great fielding and solid pitching. Sophomore short stop Melissa Drill hit a home run with the first at bat of the game setting the tone for the game with a big hit; she also doubled and was the only player with extra base hits. Sophomore catcher Maddie Steahl and Senior left fielder Becca Dvoracek led with 3 hits each. Westonka was down 1-2 after the first inning. At the top of the third, they took the lead putting 2 on the board up 3-2. In the top of the 5th, the White Hawks put up 5 more runs to go up 8-2. All 7 innings junior Maddy White was at the plate and held Orono scoreless from the 2nd to the 7th inning when she gave up a run at the end of the game. Junior first-base Ellie Skogsberg led with 3 RBI, followed by senior center fielder Calli Battis and Drill with 2 RBI each.

Westonka advances in the winners bracket to face Benilde-St. Margaret Tuesday 5/29 at WRA at 4pm.
