A total of 123 students from Mound Westonka High School will be advancing to the state DECA competition in March, following a very competitive showing at the District III DECA Conference Feb. 2 at Bloomington Jefferson High School.
Westonka was entered in 42 of the 44 events held at the district level, with 134 MWHS students competing. Of the 134 students, 54 are in their first year of DECA. The Westonka team placed in the Top 10 in all of its 42 events and placed in the Top 3 in 32 events. Westonka earned 11 first-place, 18 second-place and 16 third-place honors.
The DECA State Career Development Conference will be held March 3-5 at the Minneapolis Hyatt Regency, where over 3,000 DECA students from across Minnesota will compete.
Participation in DECA develops leadership skills, management skills, civic consciousness, job responsibility, motivation to excel, good work habits, critical thinking and problem solving. DECA is advised by Simonson, Toby Robinson and Julie Thomas.
