The Mound Westonka High School baseball team lost to Delano last Saturday, May 11, by a score of 6-3. It was the only game played all week because of the rain on Wednesday.
The Tigers struck for three runs in the top of the second with only one hit, as senior pitcher Sam Dufault was uncharacteristically wild. Dufault had two walks and hit a batter during the inning. The next inning would see the visitors get two more runs on three hits and end Dufault’s day on the mound.
The score would remain 5-0 until the top of the sixth inning, when the Tigers scored another run. The White Hawks scored three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, Dufault doubled to the fence in right center field. He scored on an RBI single by senior Alex Farwell, who had an excellent at-bat. Junior Cam Baklund scored Farwell with a double to deep left field. Senior Thomas Miller pinch ran for Baklund and scored on junior Tyler Stevenson’s single. But Stevenson was later thrown out at the plate after a single by junior Calvin Mackell. That would end the scoring for the day.
Dufault, sophomore Trent Bowe, junior Lucas Ralph and junior Ian Kirk would all throw for the White Hawks as they prepare for two very busy weeks. This week the team hosts Dassel-Cokato before traveling to Annandale and Glencoe/Silver Lake. The team closes out the regular season next week with a home doubleheader on Monday, a game against Litchfield at Siebert Field on Tuesday, and home games Wednesday and Thursday.
Come out and cheer on the White Hawks!
