The Mound Westonka High School boys tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a flurry of activity, including two make-up matches.

First up was a trip to Delano on May 7 to face off against the conference opponent Tigers. The White Hawks came home with a 5-2 victory with wins by sophomore Jack Linder, first singles, 6-0, 6-2; seventh-grader Carter Reinbold, third singles, 6-1, 6-1; sophomore Dylan Skaja, fourth singles, 6-2, 6-0; seniors Cole Luehmann and Tyler Franzen, second doubles, 7-5, 6-3; and sophomores Nolan Hanson and Harry Moen, third doubles, 7-6 (6), 6-0. Also posting a win were senior Connor Madsen and sophomore Blake Franzen at exhibition doubles (7-6 (1), 6-3). JV also won 5-2.

The next match brought Providence Academy to the MWHS courts on May 9. Once again, the team played well and finished 5-2. Wins were posted by Linder, first singles, 6-0, 6-1; senior Payton Hueler, second singles, 6-4, 6-0; junior Josh Hadden, third singles, 6-0, 6-0; Reinbold, fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0; and Luehmann and Franzen, second doubles, 6-0, 6-3. JV posted another win 6-1.

The following day, in a make-up match, conference rival Orono came to town. Home court advantage wasn’t enough, as the White Hawks lost to the state-ranked Spartans 1-6. The only win for the team came from Reinbold at fourth singles (6-2, 6-2). Franzen also won in an exhibition singles match 8-3. JV was able to pull out a close 4-3 victory.

For the final regular match of the season on May 13, the White Hawks headed down to St. Peter for another make-up match. The weather was beautiful and the team took advantage, notching a 6-1 win. Victories came from Linder, first singles, 6-1, 6-2; Hueler, second singles, 6-2, 6-1; Hadden, third singles, 6-2, 6-1; Reinbold, fourth singles, 6-2, 6-1; Luehmann and Franzen, second doubles, 6-2, 6-1; and Hanson and Moen, third doubles, 6-4, 6-3. JV continued their unbeaten streak, winning 7-0.

The White Hawks had a very strong season, going 4-2 in conference play and 10-3 overall. JV finished its undefeated season 13-0. Up next is varsity team section play, with dates and opponents yet to be determined. The White Hawks will most likely have their first match at home on Monday, May 20. Individual sections will start Friday, May 24.
