Mound Westonka High School softball celebrated the 2019 season with a lively banquet on June 10. The varsity team ended strong, taking second in the Section 6AAA tournament.
The White Hawks coaches shared humorous stories and accomplishments from the C-squad, JV and varsity teams. Impressively, the four graduating seniors—Grace Elling, Ellie Skogsberg, Taylor Smith and Maddy White—all earned Academic All-State by maintaining GPAs of 3.75 or higher, demonstrating the commitment of student-athlete competitors.
The All-Section award winners were White (awarded MVP, as voted by teammates) and juniors Chloe Kantola and Emma Mack. All-Conference honors went to White and to juniors Melissa Drill and Maddie Steahl. The All-Conference Honorable Mention honorees were Elling, Skogsberg (also voted by coaches as the White Hawks Spirit Award winner) and Kantola.
Looking to the future, ninth-graders Hannah Drill and Simone Buescher each earned a varsity letter. First-time varsity letter winners also included sophomores Maya Henslin, Kaisa Steahl and Sydney Eidsness. Sophomores Callie Nelson and Makayla Kryck earned their second letter this year.
