The varsity White Hawks competed in the Wright Country Conference Tournament at Annandale on Sept. 26 against Litchfield, New London-Spicer, Annandale and Glencoe-Silver Lake. Westonka medal winners include senior captain Alex Welty, winning first place at first singles, and freshman Sara Funderburk, winning second place at third singles.

The JV-B team had their last match against Minnetonka on Sept. 26, ending in a 2-17 loss. Seniors Ari Zahasky and Annabelle Wiskus won at sixth doubles, 8-6, and in the second round Zahasky won again with freshman Nora Sipprell at fourth doubles, 6-5.

After two weather delays, the varsity girls finally played their Team Section match against Prior Lake on Oct. 3 at the Laker courts, ending in defeat 2-5. Winning for the White Hawks included Welty, 6-0, 6-3, and seventh-grader Savannah Paul, fourth singles, 7-5, 2-6 (10-5).

The varsity team ended the season with an overall winning record 13-5 and 3-1 for the conference. The junior varsity team’s overall record is 5-4 and JV-B is 2-5-2.

The team will conclude their season with an annual banquet on Oct. 9. Individual Sections start Oct. 12 at Gustavus Adolphus College, and the White Hawks have six varsity players advancing to post-season match play.
