Too much rain at the Fox Hollow Golf Club forced Thursday’s Thundering Royal Elk Invitational to Prairie Park in Otsego. The flat course and cool weather provided some fast racing conditions for the Westonka cross country team.

Freshman Laura Sunnarborg led the way for the girls varsity, finishing in third place with a time of 19:19. Senior Kate McGown earned 20th place in the 5K with a time of 20:47. Sophomore Allison Soule finished next for the White Hawks, finishing in 21:13, and freshman Emily Wendorf and seventh-grader Brooke Garlock finished neck-and-neck at 22:35 and 22:36, respectively. The White Hawks girls team earned sixth place.

The boys varsity saw senior Alec Van Gelder return to action with a 14th-place finish at 17:18. Junior Gregoire Laboulet came in next at 17:41, with sophomore Lance Nemecek close behind at 17:49. Junior Charlie Herder and sophomore Beckett James crossed the 5K finish line near each other at 18:31 and 18:34, respectively. The boys team took eighth place out of 19 teams.

The White Hawks boys varsity and junior Charlie Herder took eighth out of 19 teams.

Sophomore Owen Paul led the boys junior varsity team, placing sixth with a time of 18:46. Junior Cole Garlock was next at 19:15. Sophomore Max Epsky and juniors Roman Fenzl and Derek Lloyd contributed to a fifth-place JV team finish.

Junior Jenna Brustad placed seventh in the girls junior varsity race with a time of 23:14. Fellow juniors Maya Henslin, Jadyn Rice and Carly McGown helped the JV girls team to a sixth-place finish, along with senior Olivia Duggan.

The boys middle school team had a banner day, earning first place with four Top 10 finishers in the 2,500 meter race. Eighth-graders Miles Dumbauld and Jack Markstrom finished in third and fourth, respectively, with times of 12:59 and 13:05. Eighth-grader Lucas Markstrom and seventh-grader Eric Wendorf brought home fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 13:34 and 13:46.

The girls middle school team won their meet as well, placing five runners in the top six spots. Leading the way was seventh-grader Bella Finnegan in first at 15:04. Second place went to eighth-grader Stella Johnson at 15:18. Seventh-graders Sara Sipprell (15:45), Claire Rashleger (15:46) and Gabby Callahan (15:51) claimed spots four through six.

The White Hawks will race in the conference championship Oct. 15 in Dassel-Cokato, and the section meet will be held Oct. 24 at Gale Woods.
