White Hawks swimmers traveled to New Prague on Oct. 21 to compete in the JV conference meet. Most of the swimmers shaved time off their personal best time and did an amazing job at their last meet of the season!
The meet started off with a first-place win in the 200 medley relay. The team of junior Katherine Johnson, ninth-grader Skyler Kelm, sophomore Roselyn Knoll and seventh-grader Onna Sullivan swam the relay with a time of 2:12.63, which was 5 seconds faster than the second-place team.
There were several Top 8 finishers at this meet. Junior Amelia Pettitt placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:15.70, followed by eighth-grader Maria Krotz (4th place) and junior Bella Anderson (5th place). Krotz also came in fourth place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:18.21.
Senior Rebeka Knoll won the 200 IM with a time of 2:27.62, followed by ninth-grader Kate Johnston (4th) and sophomore Leah Maslowski (5th).
There were 50 swimmers in the 100 freestyle race, and the White Hawks had four swimmers place in the Top 8. Ninth-grader Izzy Sullivan won this race with a personal best time of 1:00.27, followed by her sister, Onna Sullivan (3rd), Knoll (6th) and Anderson (7th).
The White Hawks dominated the 500 freestyle, placing five swimmers in the Top 8. Johnston won this event with the only time only under the 6-minute mark (5:57.36), followed by Knoll (2nd), seventh-grader Annemarie Johnson (3rd), Pettitt (4th) and sophomore Hannah Hall (6th).
There were 19 relay teams swimming the 200 freestyle relay, and the Mound Westonka-Holy Family teams A and B took first and second place. Swimming on the A relay and winning first place was the team of I. Sullivan, O. Sullivan, Anderson and Knoll with a time of 1:55.40. Swimming on the B relay team and taking second place was the team of sophomore Leah Maslowski, Pettitt, Krotz and senior Monique LaCroix.
Katherine Johnson placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.62, followed by Onna Sullivan (4th).
Skyler Kelm swam the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:27.63, earning her sixth place.
The last event of the evening was the 400 freestyle relay. The White Hawks dominated once again, placing the A and B relay teams first and second. Swimming on the A relay team and winning first place was the team of Hall, A. Johnson, Johnston and K. Johnson. Swimming on the B relay team and taking second place was the team of Pettitt, Anderson, Krotz and LaCroix.
This marked the final meet for the junior varsity team. The varsity team will start to taper for the Section 3A Championship Meet that will be held in Willmar Nov. 7 (prelims) and Nov. 9 (finals).
