To honor our students, staff, community members and especially our Mound Westonka High School 2020 senior class, Westonka Schools is joining districts across the state and nation in the #BeTheLightMN movement. On Friday nights this spring, lights at Haddorff Field will flip on at 8:00 p.m. for 20 minutes and 20 seconds.
On Friday, May 22, we will pay special recognition to the MWHS girls and boys track and field teams that had their season interrupted this year due to the threat of COVID-19. On April 23, the Minnesota State High School League announced that spring athletics and fine arts have been canceled for the remainder of their seasons. Please join us in posting photos, memories and messages to the White Hawks track teams on social media using the hashtags #BeTheLightMN and #MWHSPride.
As a reminder, Haddorff Field and Westonka’s other athletic facilities are currently closed to students and the public. Please do not gather under the lights, but you may enjoy them from your car as you drive by. We will post photos and videos to our Twitter account, @GoWhiteHawks.
The White Hawks track and field teams are led by seniors Elena Schmidt, Alec VanGelder, Brett Bowman, Connor Prok, Zac Babb, Alexandra Owens, Bailey Kahmeyer, Robbie Brustad and Zac Babb. The coaches had the following message for the seniors and their families:
We miss the opportunity to celebrate this spring season with all of you! Seniors, you have helped our team grow in numbers, strength and fun. Stay positive, stay fit and thank you for all you have done for the Track & Field teams!
