Open to students grades 7-12
Speech is a competitive fine arts activity, where students practice public address and/or acting styles of speaking, and go head-to-head with other students at tournaments. Through competition, students improve their confidence speaking in front of others, as well as their ability to think and articulate their thoughts on their feet. The Westonka Speech Team is open to all students in the Westonka school district grades 7-12. Students would work with a coach weekly on their speech for approximately 30 minutes, with the expectation that student continue practicing outside of the coaching time for on average 4-5 hours per week (roughly 20-30 minutes a day).
See the dates and links below for initial meetings. Practice begins in November and weekly competitions begin mid-January. To learn more, go to westonkaspeech.org or follow us on Twitter (@MWHS_Speech) or Instagram (mwhs_speech).
